The Jim Clark Reivers Rally

Nigel Feeney and Paula Swinscoe take part in the 4th round of the Scottish Rally Championships.

The pair campaigned the immaculate ex-Prodrive Kenneth Eriksson Subaru WRC on tarmac for the first time on the 4th round of the Scottish Rally Championship, the Jim Clark Reivers Rally,  at the end of May. The period following the previous round, the Granite City Rally had been spent getting to the bottom of the problems with the diffs, which had worked intermittently and unpredictably on the previous 2 rounds, as well as changing the car’s suspension set up to suit the tarmac stages.

Following a good shakedown session, the rally started from Berwickshire High School in Duns, with the four morning stages being the iconic Harehead  (Bothwell) and Moon and Star (Abbey St Bathans) stages run twice each with a short service in between. The first 2 stages were slightly damp following some light showers, and were spent getting the feel of the car, and the pair found themselves lying 23rd overall, but knowing that there was more opportunity to push.

However a failure of the start lights on stage 4 disrupted the rhythm they had found, and they lost time when they spun at a hairpin and struggled to make the car point in the right direction again.

The afternoon stages of Fogo and Edrom were, however, even better suited to the Subaru, and they were delighted to achieve one 12th and two 10th quickest times, finishing the event a very creditable 13th overall and 2nd in class.

The next event for the team will be back on gravel for the RSAC Scottish Rally, where they are hoping the finally effective diffs will allow them to achieve the top 10 finish they believe they are capable of.
